Key domestic indices end flat amid mixed global cues

Key domestic indices today ended flat amid mixed global cues. The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange ended below the 63,000 mark while the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange settled near the 18,700 level. The Sensex closed marginally down by nine points to end at 62,970. The Nifty finished 26 points up at 18,691. 

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index gained 1.04 percent while the Small-Cap index added 0.71 percent. In the Sensex pack of 30 companies, shares of 20 firms appreciated while those of 10 fell. Maruti was the top gainer as it climbed 1.7 percent followed by Tata Motors which rose one and a half percent. Titan gained 1.1 percent. On the other hand, TCS declined 0.9 percent, Reliance fell 0.8 percent and NTPC slipped 0.7 percent.

In sectoral indices at BSE, all sectors logged gains except the Energy index which lost 0.2 percent. The healthcare index surged one and a half percent while the Auto and Consumer Durables sectors gained one percent each.

The consumer Discretionary sector rose 0.9 percent. The overall market breadth was positive as shares of 1,860 companies advanced while those of 1,783 declined. A total of 174 shares remained unchanged.
