In Kerala, state Election Commission has decided to hold elections to the local self governing institutions during the last week of October this year. Specific date of the single phase election will be announced shortly. As per a recent legislation enacted by the Kerala Assembly, women are entitled for fifty percent reservation in panchayatiraj institutions. Election to local bodies in the state is seen as a curtain raiser to the assembly polls scheduled to be held in May next year.
