In Kerala, to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Panchayatiraj system in the state, a special grama yatra through the interiors of all the 140 assembly constituencies will be undertaken on Republic Day. The Minister for local self government Dr. M. K. Muneer said in Thiruvanathapuram that the Yatra will be launched in Trissur. The information and statistics to be procured during the travel will be utilised for the overall development of each gram panchayat. Kerala is planning to introduce five year plan for local self government institutions from next year. Our correspondent reports, a global rural meet to be organised as part of the function will be attended by delegates from countries like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
