In Kerala, three Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Shallow watercraft constructed for the Indian Navy were launched at a function held at the Cochin Shipyard today.<br />'' &nbsp;<br />'' These vessels form the first in the series of eight such vessels being constructed by the Shipyard.<br />'' &nbsp;<br />'' The Mahe class of vessels will replace the in-service Abhay Class ASW Corvettes and are designed to undertake anti-submarine operations in coastal waters, Low-Intensity Maritime Operations, Mine Laying operations, and sub-surface surveillance.<br />'' &nbsp;<br />'' The vessels will bear the name INS Mahe, INS Malvan, and INS Mangrol, upon commissioning into the Indian Navy.<br />'' &nbsp;<br />'' The ships are 78 m long, about 12 m wide, and can reach a maximum speed of upto 25 knots. The first vessel is expected to be ready for delivery by November next year.
