In Kerala, an LPG tanker exploded near Chala in Kannur district last night killing one and causing injuries to about 40 people including 10 critically. Five houses and several shops in the area have also been destroyed in the fire. Those with major injuries were rushed to the Pariyaram Medical college hospital and others in various hospitals in Kannur and Kozhikode.Since the residents of the area were rushed out of the houses immediately after the explosion, major casualties were averted, said the police. The fire was brought under control by the early hours of today.The gas tanker was on its way to Kozhikode from Mangalore.Kerala Chief Minister Mr.Oommen Chandy and other ministers will reach the spot in the afternoon.
