Kerala local body polls: 48 per cent voting in first six hrs

In Kerala, in the second phase of election to local self government institutions, 48 per cent polling has been recorded in the first six hours of voting. Brisk and peaceful polling is going on in all seven districts of the state. The main competition is between the ruling LDF and congress led UDF.Polling is in full swing in Alappuzha, Eranakulam, Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts. Long queues of women and elderly people are seen in polling booths. Idamalakkudi, the first tribal panchayat of Kerala has recorded 75 per cent polling till 12 noon.Like the first phase of voting, polling percentage is likely to go up. The first phase recorded 75.33 per cent polling. The present polling prior to assembly election in May next year has evoked considerable enthusiasm among party workers and voters of Kerala.The result will be announced on Wednesday.
