The Kerala High Court today vacated a stay on the state government's move to allocate to students the 50 per cent seats it took over in post graduate courses in Self Financing Medical colleges. The Kerala Christian Professional College Managements Federation had challenged the government move, following which the High Court had granted stay on allocation of seats to students. The High Court interim order comes in the back drop of the apex court order earlier in the day extending the deadline of admissions to post graduate medical courses till tomorrow. Justice Antony Dominic, who vacated the stay, took cognisance of a statement filed by the Advocate General regarding the Supreme Court order. The Court rejected a plea that admissions already made to four seats belonging to the government quota in Pariyaram Medical college be adjusted against management quota during next academic year. Student outfits in the state have been protesting the refusal of managements of self-financing colleges to follow the state quota rules. 15 persons, including a CPI-M MLA and 10 policemen, were injured yesterday as the agitation turned violent in Thiruvananthapuram. The issue rocked the state assembly today with ruling UDF and opposition LDF members nearly coming to blows over the police lathicharge on pro-Left outfits, forcing the House to adjourn for the day.
