Kerala High Court has upheld the vigilance court order for further probe in the bar bribery case in which State's Finance Minister KM Mani is allegedly involved. The high court order came yesterday during a hearing of a petition filed by the state vigilance department challenging the observations of a lower court against the vigilance director.

Even though the Kerala High Court had expunged the observations of the vigilance court against the state vigilance director, it has made some references, which may create waves in the state politics. While disposing the petition, a single bench of the Kerala High Court made it clear that the vigilance director is powerful to give timely directions to the investigating officer in the matter of investigation. Earlier, while ordering further probe in the bar bribery case, the vigilance court has observed that the vigilance director has no power to give timely directions to the investigating officer. The High Court also upheld the vigilance court order for further probe in the case.

While disposing the case, the court also observed that it is quite natural that the common man to feel that there can not be proper investigation by a state machinery when the accused is continuing as a minister. Based on the observations of the High Court, the opposition has already demanded resignation of Kerala Finance Minister K.M. Mani. Responding to media questions in Kochi, K.M. Mani told that the party will meet tomorrow and take a decision.
