Kerala HC sets aside election of Kodikunnil Suresh

The Kerala High Court today set aside the election of Kodikkunnil Suresh of the Congress as Member of Parliament from Mavelikkara Lok Sabha reserved constituency. Disposing off petitions challenging his election, Justice M Sasidharan Nambiar declared his election void and noted that Kodikkunnil Suresh had produced a contradictory caste certificate, which the Returning Officer should not have accepted. The court found that he was not entitled to contest from a constituency reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates. The petition challenging the election of Kodikkunnel Suresh was filed by his opponent in the last general election R S Anil of the CPI and two others. A five time MP, Kodikkunnil Suresh was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1989, 1991, 1996, 1999 and 2009 general elections.
