Kerala HC orders police protection for petitioners

The Kerala High Court today ordered police protection for four petitioners whose lands were encroached upon by tribals in Wynad district recently. The protection will be in force for three weeks. The petition was moved by Mr Shreyams Kumar MLA, Harrisons Malayalam Plantations company and two others. A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice K M Joseph and Justice ML Joseph Francis in the interim order directed the central and state government to furnish affidavits regarding the number of landless tribals in the state and details about the steps taken to distribute lands to the tribal community.
