The Kerala High Court today directed the State Government to file an Action Taken Report tomorrow on the Pullumedu stampede last Friday in which 102 Sabarimala pilgrims had lost their lives. A Division Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B. Radhrakrishnan and Justice P.S. Gopinathan directed that the Central Government and the Ayyappa Sewa Sangam, a voluntary organisation be impleaded in the case. The court directed the Centre to summit a report within one month on what could be done in Pullumedu for the Sabarimala pilgrims without affecting the flora and fauna of the region. The court observed that in order to prevent the recurrence of tragedies like the one which took place in Pullumedu, it should be made clear to the public whether the Makara Jyoti visible in Sabarimala on Makara Sankranti day is man-made or not. The reports of the police, Travancore Devaswam and the Forest Department on the Pullumedu tragedy were placed before the court.
