Kerala High Court today asked the owners of Italian vessel to furnish a bank guarantee of 25 lakh rupees. The court observed that the vessel will be detained till the amount is furnished. The Court said this in an interim order on a petition filed by one of the relatives of the fishermen who were shot dead by Italian marines. They are seeking a compensation of one crore rupees. The ship owners contended that the incident took place beyond India's jurisdiction in the international waters and the case be quashed. The Italian marines are said to be responsible for killing two Indian fishermen last week.India has made it clear that the issue will be handled according to the law. Minister of State for External Affairs, Preneet Kaur said in New Delhi that the court will decide what steps are to be taken further. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Italy, Steffan de Mistura rushed to Cochin after holding discussions with her counterpart in Delhi.
