Kerala govt to make internet facility a right of citizens

The Kerala State budget was presented by the State Finance Minister Dr Thomas Isaac today. This is the first full-fledged budget of the present Left Democratic front (LDF) government. In the Budget speech the Minister said that the Centre's demonetization measure has affected all sectors of life and will cause economic slump. He also said that the State is prepared to introduce Goods and Services Tax.<br/><br/>Many social welfare measures were announced in the Budget. Over one lakh homeless people to get houses under budgetary provisions. Medicines for treatment of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol to be free at primary health centers. A health data register was proposed to be made having the the health details of all the citizens. Autism parks will be set up in all districts of the state. In the wake of State facing its worst drought season the Budget proposed to spend Rs 150 crore on water conservation projects. Giving due importance to the need of digital connectivity ,the Budget promised to make internet facilty a right of citizens. Basic free internet services will be provided to 20 lakh poor families.<br/><br/>The development, security and rehabilitation of the women was given high priority in the Budget. Rs 68 crore was announced for women protection.. There will be separate women battalion, police stations,and a public registry of the sex offenders. Clean Kerala was given due importance in which the Suchitwa Mission was given 127 crore. Government promised to make efforts to bring an end for manual scavenging. Rs 10 crore is allocated for mechanization of sewage maintenance. Rs 100 crore was allotted for clean crematoriums with focus on clean streets. 3 crore trees are to be planted in a span of three years and Rs 50 crore allotted for scientific landfills.
