The Kerala government has decided to convene an all-party meeting on the 24th of this month in Thiruvananthapuram to discuss the issue of large scale encroachment of government land in Munnar. Briefing media persons after a cabinet meeting in the state capital today, Chief Minister Ommen Chandy said the land mafia is using the cover of farmers and tribals to carry out large scale encroachments in the region. He said Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, V S Achuthanandan will be a special invitee to the all party meet. The cabinet also decided to appoint former Union Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar as the Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board. The government will establish Kochi Metro Ltd under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister to carry out the Kochi Metro Rail project. Earlier, the state Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, who visited Munnar yesterday, handed over his report to the Chief Minister.
