Kerala Govt. orders judicial enquiry into Thekkady boat tragedy

Kerala Chief Minister Mr V S Achuthanandhan has ordered a judicial enquiry into the boat tragedy that killed 37 people at Thekkady on Wednesday . He said that a sitting judge of the High Court will be probing the accident.The Chief Minister has announced financial assistance of five lakh rupees each to the relatives of those who perished in the tragedy. The post mortem of all the 41 victims whose bodies were recovered from the Thekkady lake have been completed.In the meanwhile, the mortal remains of 13 victims of the Thekkady boat tragedy were airlifted on two chartered flights from the Cochin International Airport during the wee hours of this morning. One of the aircraft took the bodies to Bangalore, while the other flew to Delhi via Mumbai. The bodies of three victims were sent earlier separately — two of them to Hyderabad and one to Mumbai. The mortal remains of 16 victims from Tamil Nadu were sent by road. 18 bodies were embalmed at two hospitals in Kochi last evening. Police sources said three bodies are still kept at a private hospital at Mundakkayam and another four at Thiruvalla. It may be recalled that 41 bodies were recovered from the lake so far following the boat capsize that took place on Wedneday evening.
