Kerala govt opposes handing over investigation of Prof Joseph's hand chopping incident to NIA

The Kerala government today opposed the handing over of the investigation of the Prof T J Joseph hand chopping incident to the National Investigation Agency.In a counter-affidavit submitted to the Kerala High Court, the state government said a proper investigation into all aspects of the case is going on and 22 persons belonging have been arrested so far. It pointed out that the power and authority to ban the Popular Front of India [PFI] and its political front, the Social Democratic Party of India [SDPI]lay with the union government.It said the alleged links these organisations have with terrorist groups like the Lashkar-e-Toiba and the banned SIMI is being probed into. The charge that these organisations are propogating ideologies against the interest of the country is also under investigation.The government's reply is in response to an affidavit filed in the High Court seeking a ban on PFI and SDPI, whose supporters were involved in the attack on the Professor.It may be recalled that Prof T J Joseph palm was chopped off by a seven member gang on July 4, for preparing a question paper with objectionable reference to the Prophet.
