Kerala Governor Withdraws Security visits Kozhikode Market

Dramatic scenes unfolded in Kozhikode today with Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, in an unusual move directed the withdrawal of the security provided to him by the Kerala Police, and proceeded to visit Mithai Theruvu, one of the busiest market places in Kozhikode city.
''
''At Mithai Theruvu, the Governor walked on the streets, exchanged pleasantaries with ordinary people and shopkeepers, and took selfies with them. The street is famous for Kozhikodan halwa, and the Governor savoured the sweets at a couple of sweet meat shops.
''
''Police however, maintained a close vigil on the Governor, providing him security.
''
''A large number of people gathered on the streets and followed the unexpected guest, as he walked along the streets. Mr Khan spent nearly half an hour in the market. The Governor said he is overwhelmed by the love and affection shown by the people and expressed his gratitude towards them.
''
''The Governor's move comes at a time when his stand-off with the LDF government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan almost took an ugly turn with the SFI mounting protests against him both in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode recently.
''
'' Mr Khan appears to be sending a clear message to the Chief Minister that while he and his cabinet colleagues are touring the entire state suppressing voices of dissent with brute force, aided by police and CPI-M party workers, he was able to move discarding security, as the people are with him.
''
'' The Governor is scheduled to inaugurate a seminar on "Sreenarayana Guru : the Reniassence Prophet" organised by the Bharatiya Vichara Kendra at the Calicut University campus this evening. Security has been beefed up at the University campus in view of the likelihood of student protests.
