Kerala government orders judicial inquiry into Malappuram tourist boat tragedy

The Kerala government has ordered a comprehensive judicial inquiry into yesterday's boat tragedy near Tanur in Malappuram district, which claimed 22 lives, including several women and children. Speaking to media persons after a meeting with his cabinet colleagues at Tanur, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced an ex-gratia of 10 lakh rupees each to the kin of those killed in the mishap.<br />''<br />''Chief Minister said the state government will bear the expenses of all those who are undergoing treatment at various hospitals. He said a Special Investigation Team of the Police will also probe into the tragedy. Earlier, the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues visited a Madarasa at Parappanangadi, where he paid last respects to the victims. Mr Vijayan later visited a private hospital at Kottakkal, where some victims are undergoing treatment. 8 persons are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals.<br />
