Kerala fishermen killing: HC dismisses petition to quash FIR filed by Italian govt, 2 Italian marines

The Kerala High Court today dismissed a petition filed by the Italian government and the two Italian marines seeking the quashing of the FIR registered in connection with the killing of two fishermen on February 15.

Justice P S Gopinathan directed the petitioners to pay one lakh rupees as costs within two weeks.

The petitioners had sought the quashing of the case on the ground that the shooting incident took place in international waters and hence Indian laws are not applicable.

The Court also took exception to the fishermen's kin impleading in the case and later withdrawing from it. The High Court directed them to deposit 10,000 rupees with the Kerala State Legal Service Authority.
