The first phase of polling to the local self government institutions of Kerala concluded today. Polling was held from 7 AM to 5 PM in seven districts of the state. Initial reports indicate that an average 65 percent polling has been recorded. While northern districts polled 75 percent and above, Thiruvananthapuram recorded just 52 percent polling. Voting was by and large peaceful in all the districts. Women and senior citizens exercised their franchise with great enthusiasm. Through a recent legislation, women are entitled for 50 percent reservation in all civic bodies. The second phase of polling is to be held day after tomorrow and results will be out by 27th.
