Kerala decides to approach committee appointed by SC on Mullapperiyar dam

Kerala Government has decided to approach the empowered committee appointed by the Supreme Court against the expert team that visited the mullapperiyar dam recently to assess safety of the 116 year old structure.As per legal advice obtained by the state, the manner of inspection by experts Dr. C.D.Thatte and Dr. D.K.Mehtha and their behaviour towards senior technical officials of the state will be brought to the notice of the Committee.Meanwhile, the water level of the dam has come down from 136 to 125.4 feet. Even as the inflow to the dam is 697 cubic feet, Tamil nadu is drawing 1149 cubic feet of water per second. At the same time, the ongoing relay hunger strike at Upputhara in Idukki has entered the 36th day today demanding decommissioning of the dam.
