Kerala: Customs Dept submits chargesheet in diplomatic channel gold smuggling case at Economic Offences Court in Ernakulam

In Kerala, the Customs Department today submitted the chargesheet in the diplomatic channel gold smuggling case at the Economic Offences Court in Ernakulam. Twenty nine persons are accused in the case, including M. Shivshankar, the former Principal Secretary to the Kerala Chief Minister.<br />''<br />''The charge sheet named Shivshankar as the 29th accused in the case. It said he was aware of the smuggling activities, but failed to report the matter to the concerned authorities.<br />''<br />''The Customs said, the smuggling using diplomatic channels took place 21 times and 169 kilograms of gold was brought into the country.<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The matter came to the fore when about 30 kilograms of gold was seized from a diplomatic bag at the Thiruvananthapuram Airport on 5th of July last year. The bag was meant to be delivered at the UAE Consulate in Thiruvananthapuram.</span><br />
