Kerala Cultural Affairs & Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian has resigned amid a row over his reported controversial remarks on the country's Constitution.  The Minister's resignation came at the end of a Cabinet meeting and discussion with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Mr. Cheriyan has since handed over his resignation to the  Chief Minister.  <br />'' <br />'' According to reports, the stance of the CPM national leadership turned crucial in the resignation of Mr. Cherian. Talking to the media after officially resigning from the ministerial post, Mr. Saji Cherian expressed disgust over misinterpreting his speech which carried his remark on the  Constitution. He said, the decision to step down was personal and not forced upon him.  Mr. Saji Cherian is the first Minister to resign from the Pinarayi Vijayan Ministry in its second term. The State Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the day today as the Opposition disrupted the proceedings of the House demanding the resignation of the Minister.  <br />'' <br />''Welcoming the Minister's resignation, the Opposition Congress and BJP have urged that Mr. Saji Cherian step down also as MLA. Mr. Cherian reportedly said at a party function in the Pathanamthitta district on Sunday that the Constitution of the country "condones exploitation" and was written in a way helping to "plunder" the people. The Minister reportedly slammed the judiciary saying that the "Constitution was not fair to the labour class".
