The Kerala High Court today dismissed the anticipatory bail application of CPI-M MLA T P Rajesh and the bail application of the party Kannur District Secretary P Jayarajan in a case related to the murder of an Indian Union Muslim League worker Abdul Shukkoor.Justice S S Satheesachandran rejected the bail pleas on the ground that allowing bail to the duo would affect the investigation process. The Court also took exception to the large scale violence and destruction of public property on the day of the hartal in the state following the arrest of P Jayarajan. The court observed that public interest is of paramount importance and added that violence in the name of hartal is not acceptable. Abdul Shukkoor was murdered allegedly by CPI-M activists at Kannur in February last. This was in retaliation for an attack on Jayarajan and Rajesh at a nearby place on the same day.
