In Kerala, in a dramatic development, CPI(M) has decided to field Chief Minister Sri. V.S. Achuthanandan for the next month's Assembly elections. Party State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said that V.S. Achuthanandan will be contesting the election from Malampuzha constituency in Palakkad. The Politbureau of the party has been discussing the issue in Delhi for the last two days. The decision of the CPI(M) State Secretariate two days ago to deny ticket to V.S. Achuthanandan had created wide spread protest from party workers across the state. Pinarayi Vijayan also said that V.S. Achuthanandan will be leading the party in next month's election. The Chief Minister said that he will abide by the new decision of the party.
