Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has urged the Centre to avoid import of natural rubber. The decision of the centre led to opposition walk out in the state assembly on Tuesday. Replying to an adjournment motion, the Chief Minister assured the house that the concern of rubber farmers will be conveyed to the Centre. Suresh Kurup, MLA who sought permission for the adjournment motion said that import is avoidable since there is not much difference in domestic and international price of rubber. Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan also criticised the move. Even if the Chief Minister assured that suitable market intervention will be done this did not satisfy the opposition and they walked out of the house in protest.
