Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has expanded his cabinet by inducting thirteen ministers on Monday. Including the lone woman minister, P.K.Jayalekshmi, nine new ministers are from the Congress. While Indian Union Muslim League got three ministerial berths in Monday's expansion one of the new ministers belong to Kerala Congress (M). The names of speaker, deputy speaker and parliamentary affairs minister will be announced later.AIR correspondent reports, finally, after days of intense and prolonged discussions within the congress and other parties in the UDF fold, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has included thirteen more ministers to his cabinet. With this, the strength of his cabinet has gone upto twenty. Both young and seasoned politicians are in the cabinet. Some of them are first timers. Later, after the cabinet meeting Oommen Chandy said that BPL families of Kerala will be given rice at one rupee per kilogram as Onam gift from September. The thirteenth assembly of Kerala will be convened on first of next month.
