Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today inaugurated the much awaited Malayalam University at Thunjanparambu.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chandy said the government would move ahead with the intention of making Malayalam language compulsory in all schools in the state. He said, the aim of the government after setting up the Malayalam university would be to get a classical language status for Malayalam.

K Jayakumar Vice-Chancellor of the University, said the institution would also offer priority to research courses after post-graduation.
