In Kerala, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has criticised the State Election Commission for banning the State Government decision to provide rice at rupees two per kilogram to more sections of the society. In a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, he alleged that the ban is due to political pressure from Congress led opposition. AIR correspondent reports, in a serious allegation Kerala Chief Minister said the Election Commission is adopting a different yard stick for Kerala in enforcing model code of conduct. He informed that Kerala government is to file a formal complaint with the Chief Election Commission for banning his government's decision to provide rice at rupees two per kilogram to more sections of the society. He pointed out that state cabinet decision on the rice programme was taken seven days before announcement of elections. Sh Achuthanandan also urged the Election Commission to clarify whether Railway Minister's announcement of free travel facility to girl students in trains is violation of model code of conduct or not.
