Kerala CM: Country showing resilience to overcome economic slowdown

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said despite global recession,the country has shown tremendous resilience to overcome the economic slowdown. He said this shows that the countrys economic fundamentals are strong.The Chief Minister was delivering the Independenceday message after unfurling the national tricolour and reviewing the majestic parade at the Central Stadium in the capital Thiruvananthapuram today.In his independence day address,Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced a series of welfare schemes.He said with Central Government assistance, a Mother and Child care programme will be implemented from tomorrow at a cost of 23.42 crore rupees.He said the State Public Service Commission has initiated steps to fill up backlog of 1188 vacancies for the physically handicapped. He said from 1st April,all welfare pensions will be distributed through banks.Chief Minister also announced enhancement of freedom fighters pension by 1000 rupees.He said right to services will be implemented from 1st of November,this year. In other districts,Ministers unfurled the national flag and reviewed parade by various contingents.
