In Kerala, newly elected members of the state legislative assembly will be sworn in on Wednesday. The speaker of the 13th assembly will be elected on Thursday. While senior Congress Leader, G. Karthikeyan is the ruling UDF candidate, opposition LDF has fielded former minister A K Balan to the post. Including the nominated anglo-Indian member UDF has 73 members in 140 member house. CPIM led LDF will be a vibrant opposition with 68 members. Former Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan will be the opposition leader. The regular session of the house is scheduled to start on 24th of June and will continue till 20th July.
