Kerala Assembly has postponed its session for two days to pay homage to Food and Civil Supplies Minister T M Jacob who passed away in Kochi last night. In a very brief session today, Speaker G Karthikeyan informed the house about the sad demise of the Minister. T M Jacob will be cremated at Piravam, Kochi tomorrow. Kerala Governor M.O.H. Farooq, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan have mourned the death of TM Jacob.The sad demise of Food & Civil supplies Minister T M Jacob is an irreparable loss for the UDF government in Kerala. With the death of Jacob, the state lost an able administrator, seasoned parliamentarian and an excellent orator. From the young age of 27 he had served Kerala as minister four times and as member of the state assembly eight times.T M Jacob will be remembered for his remarkable contributions in the fields of education, irrigation, water resources and culture. He was the driving force as food minister in the recent launch of one rupee rice programme and provision of ration card on the day of application itself.Close to six lakh ration cards have been distributed under the scheme. For his excellence as parliamentarian Jacob has received several awards including national shramveer award. Kerala is observing a three day mourning on TM Jacob's demise and tomorrow will be a public holiday for the state.
