The Kerala assembly witnessed uproarious scenes today as the LDF opposition demanded a judicial probe against police firing and lathi charge on SFI students on Monday at the Kozhikode Engineering college. Right from the question hour, opposition members tried to raise the issue. However, the speaker continued with the question hour despite frequent protests from the opposition bench.Later, in reply to an adjournment motion notice, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the police firing on students is unfortunate and the state DGP has been directed to submit a report on the same. However, he defended the police lathi charge saying it was in self defence. Not satisfied with this reply, the opposition insisted on action against the police official who fired at the students and demanded a judicial probe. Shouting slogans they trooped into the well of the house. Unable to pacify the opposition, the Speaker rushed through the proceedings and adjourned the house for the day.
