Kenyan Army has said that most of the hostages, trapped in a Nairobi shopping mall by Islamist gunmen, have been rescued and most of the complex is secure. Kenya Defence Forces said, four of its soldiers were injured in the latest fighting inside the upmarket Westgate mall, which was stormed by gunmen from Somalia's Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab rebels on Saturday. Officials said, at least 68 people have been killed and 200 wounded in the attack.
In a message to the Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said, this incident is a stark reminder that the persisting menace of terrorism remains a formidable challenge that calls for a concerted and sustained response from the global community. Dr. Singh has directed the External Affairs Ministry to extend all help to the affected Indian nationals.
External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said in New Delhi that the Indian Mission in Kenya is providing all medical help to the injured Indian nationals.
