In Kenya, incumbent President, Uhuru Kenyatta has taken a strong lead in the Presidential election. Results released by the electoral commission (IEBC) showed Kenyatta leading with 55 percent of the nearly 13 million ballots counted against Raila Odinga's 44 percent, a difference of nearly 1.4 million votes.<br/><br/>However, the opposition leader Odinga claimed that the IEBC had not provided documents that would show how the tallies were arrived at. The electoral commission has urged people to wait calmly for full results. <br/><br/>The allegation by Kenyatta's longtime rival Raila Odinga raised fears of a possibly violent dispute over the results of yesterday's election to decide the leader of east Africa's most vibrant democracy. To win outright, a candidate needs more than 50 percent of the vote, and at least 25 percent in 24 of Kenya's 47 counties. If that threshold is not met, a run-off vote between the top two candidates will be triggered. President Kenyatta is hoping for a second term in office. <br/><br/>In 2007, the disputed vote resulted in two months of ethnically driven political violence that killed 1,100 people and displaced 600,000 in a major blow to a nation seen as a regional bastion of stability.
