Kejriwal sworn in as CM of Delhi; Calls for people's support to end corruption

New Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejrival has sought common people's outright support to eradicate the menace of corruption from Delhi and as well from the country. Addressing a huge gathering after being sworn-in as Delhi's youngest Chief Minister at Ramlila Maidan today, Kejriwal said it would be a long drawn fight and his party is ready to clear dirt from the country's polity. He said, the Party's struggle was to give power to the people of Delhi. Kejriwal said that his “guru” Anna Hazare opposed him from entering into politics but he assured Anna that he would be doing so to wipe out corruption.

Later, talking to reporters after the first Cabinet meeting, Kejriwal said that there will be no witch hunting of bureaucrats as he asked them to work with honesty. He said the Cabinet decided that no minister and official in Delhi Government will use red beacon. It was also deiced that no PSO and escort vehicle would be provided to officials and security will be allowed only on threat perception basis.

The Chief Minister also held series of meetings with senior officials of state government and Delhi police. They included Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi who discussed the law and order situation in the city. After the meeting the Police Commissioner said that CM shared concern over the safety of people of Delhi particularly women. He said both Delhi Police and government want to make the national capital safe. Delhi Jal Board CEO, officials of power distribution companies and Indraprastha Gas Limited also met Kejriwal.

Talking to reporters after meeting officials Chief Minister Kejriwal said that government will decide on his party's promise to supply of 700 litres of free water to each household and cutting down electricity charges by early next week. Kejriwal said he has asked officials to work out details in this regard. He said he will take decision on water by Monday and on power, he will be able to say something by Tuesday or Wednesday.
