Kei Nishikori beats Andy Murray to reach US Open semi-finals

In Tennis, world number two Andy Murray has made a shock quarterfinal exit from the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the season. The Briton was stunned by Japan's sixth seed Kei Nishikori in a five-setter, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 1-6, 5-7. This is just the second time Nishikori has entered the semi-finals of a Grand Slam. He had reached his only major final to date at the US Open two years ago.In Women's Singles, world number one Serena Williams stormed into the semi-finals this morning with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win over fifth seed Simona Halep. Serena is now just 2 wins away from a record 23rd Grand Slam title. If she wins, she will surpass Steffi Graf and become the most successful woman in the Open Era.In the other quarter-final, 18-year old Croatian Ana Konjuh's dream run came to an end after she lost to Czech Karolina Pliskova, 2-6, 2-6. Konjuh had defeated world number four Agnieszka Radwanska in the pre-quarterfinals. Pliskova, on the other hand, has booked a Grand Slam semi-final berth for the first time.
