<span style="color: #222222;">The 43rd death anniversary of the rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is being observed today.<br />''<br />'' He is known as the  national poet of Bangladesh though it has not been formally gazetted by the government.<br />'' <br />'' Ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader laid wreath at his grave in the morning today. Speaking to the media after paying his respects, Quader said that Kazi Nazrul Islam was the poet of humanity and his poetry inspires people to fight against the communal forces. Opposition BNP secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that Kazi Nazrul's work inspire people to love their country. A number of cultural and social organisations across Bangladesh are holding programs to observe the occasion.<br />'' <br />'' Known as the Rebel Poet or Bidrohi Kobi Nazrul wrote nearly 3000 songs and composed many of them which are known as Nazrul Geeti. His poems were a source of inspiration during the liberation war of Bangladesh.<br />'' <br />'' Born in 1899 near Asansol in West Bengal, Kazi Nazrul was a versatile genius who fought the British through his creative writings for which he suffered jail. He also acted in films and worked for All India Radio, Kolkata.<br />'' <br />''<br />''At the time of Bangladesh's independence in 1971 poet Nazrul was staying in Kolkata. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman brought him to Dhaka with state honours. He died on 29 August 1976 which is 12th Bhadra according to Bangla calendar. Following the Bangla Calendar, the death anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam is being observed today.</span><br />
