Katta’s son remanded to judicial custody

Katta Jagadish Naidu, a Corporator from Vasanthanagar, who fell into the Lokayukta dragnet following a complaint by Ramanjanappa, a witness in the multicrore land scam, has been remanded to judicial custody till 12th of this month. Jagadish Naidu is the son of Excise Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu in the Karnataka State Government. A Special Judge issued the orders late yesterday night. Lokayuktha has charged that Jagadish allegedly asked Ramanjanappa not to help the Lokayukta police in investigating the scam and sent him to his residence to collect Rs 1 lakh from one Kumar. The BJP Government in Karnataka is facing a major embarrassment in the acquisition and subsequent denotification of land by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board and the Bangalore Development Authority, BDA. The Chief Minister has denied the charges and said the 1.16 acres land owned by his family in Bangalore was dropped from the acquisition process by the BDA in 2008, as the Government had not taken possession of the land nor finalized the compensation. Hence he argues that it was well within his powers to return the land to the owner. The Opposition however is alleging that Rs.108 crores compensation was paid to some non existing beneficiaries created allegedly by Excise and IT-BT Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu.
