Katta Jagadish Naidu, a corporator from Vasanthanagar, fell into the Lokayukta dragnet following a complaint by Ramanjanappa, a witness in the multicrore land scam. Jagadish Naidu is the son of Excise Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu in the Karnataka State Government. Briefing reporters after the arrest, State Additional Director General of Police (Lokayukta), R.K. Dutta, said Ramanjanappa was a key witness in the KIADB scam, in which the Kattas were allegedly involved. On Tuesday, Ramanjanappa lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta that Jagadish was pestering him not to give evidence in the scam. A case was registered against Jagadish under the Prevention of Corruption Act. He was charged with abetting a person to influence a public servant and attempting to deface evidence. In a fresh complaint, Ramanjanappa said Jagadish had on Thursday asked him to meet him at a hotel at Gandhi Nagar. Accordingly, the Lokayukta sleuths formed two teams, one at the hotel, and another at Jagadish’s Sadashiva-nagar residence. Jagadish allegedly asked Ramanjanappa not to help the Lokayukta police in investigating the matter and sent him to his residence to collect Rs 1 lakh from one Kumar. Kumar seems to have got an inkling of the trap and soon after handing over the amount, fled the scene. He is still at large. Soon after this, Jagadish was arrested by the Lokayukta police at Gandhinagar.
