The Delhi High Court today upheld a trial court order sentencing three convicts in the Nitish Katara murder case to life imprisonment.
The court said Katara's murder was a case of honour killing.The three accused in the case including Vikas Yadav, son of UP politician D P Yadav, who are serving life terms in Tihar jail, had appealed to the High Court challenging their conviction by a lower court six years ago.
Nitish Katara's mother Neelam Katara had also filed appeals asking for death penalty for the killers. A bench of justices Gita Mittal and J R Midha fixed April 25 for hearing arguments on quantum of sentence to be awarded.
Nitish Katara was murdered of his alleged relationship with Vikas's sister Bharti. He was kidnapped from a farmhouse wedding party in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on the night of February 17, 2002. His charred body was found later.
