In Kashmir valley, one person was killed and three others were injured today when police resorted to fire as a group of protestors defied curfew in Kamarwari area of Srinagar city. In Sekhpura area of Budgam district, five persons were injured in a similar incident. There are reports of protests from Pampore and some other areas even as curfew in Srinagar and all other major towns in the valley continued for the fourth consecutive day. Separatist leader Syed Ali Gillani who was released yesterday, had asked the people to march to Idgah in Srinagar city today. He had appealed people to desist from stone pelting and urged the government to lift the curfew.A delegation of Congress leaders from Jammu and Kashmir today met the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and discussed the prevailing situation in the border state. The delegation pledged full support to the efforts made by the Centre and the State Government in restoring peace and order in the state. Among others, senior Congress leaders Chaudhary Mohd. Aslam and Janak Raj Gupta were in the delegation.The meeting comes close on the heels of discussions by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omer Abdullah with the Prime Minister and other central leaders yesterday. Mr. Abdullah underlined the need for a political package for the state to address the present situation. He, however, said that restoration of peace is a pre-requisite for starting any dialogue. Earlier, the Cabinet Committee on Security took stock of situation of Jammu and Kashmir. The Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram will make a statement in the Lok Sabha today. Responding to the concerns of Members on the situation yesterday, he said, it has taken a serious turn.
