Karzai stresses need for improving public services in Afghanistan

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has stressed the need for improving public services in the country and said that Indian civil service could serve as an ideal model for Afghanistan. Addressing a high level meeting with visiting Indian Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai in Kabul yesterday he said reforming public service is high on the agenda of Afghan government. President Karzai said that a delegation of Afghan experts will soon visit India and study how best Indian civil service model can be applied in Afghan administration. He added Afghanistan government intends to upgrade the standards for civil service entrance examinations and make all appointments on the basis of merits and qualifications. Foreign secretary Mr. Mathai welcomed the proposed visit of the Afghan delegation and assured India’s full help and co-operation in facilitatating the visit.
