Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai has ordered the establishment of a committee led by his Interior Minister for preparing a timetable towards phasing out of private security companies, PSCs. The committee to be participated by representatives from NATO and major international donors will submit its report by 15th of next month. Ban on PSCs had created a huge furore among international aid organizations with many threatening to discontinue their projects while Afghan government sticking to the ban. The formation of committee is an attempt to break the impasse. A press statement by President’s office said 90 days will be given to each PSCs before designated dissolution date following which the government of Afghanistan will assume responsibility for providing necessary security for development and reconstruction projects.
