Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai has said that terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba was behind the attack on the Indian Consulate in Herat.

He said in New Delhi that according to information given to the Afghan government by a Western intelligence agency, the perpetrators of the Herat attack belonged to the LeT.

He complimented the Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel and the Afghan National Security Forces for their prompt response in neutralising the terrorists. Karzai said, Herat incident was clearly a terrorist strike on Indian and Afghan interests.

In response to a query on India and Afghanistan being victims of Pakistan-sponsored terror, President Karzai said both countries hope that authorities in Pakistan will react and uproot the source and sanctuary of terror in their country.
