Afghan President, Hamid Karzai has congratulated the people of the country for the 2013 FIFA Fair Play Award won by the Afghanistan Football Federation. In a statement issued by the President's office in Kabul this evening, President Karzai described it as the beginning of the good news for Afghanistan in the new year. Mr. Karzai also hoped that the country will be able to achieve more successes in different areas in the coming months.The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) awarded the Afghan Football Federation with the Fair Play Award in a function in Zurich, Switzerland yesterday. The award was given for promoting the game of football in the country and successfully organizing first international match in Kabul.In a match played August last year, for the first time in a decade, Afghanistan beat Pakistan 3-0. After that Afghan national football team won their first major international competition by defeating defending champion India by 2-0 in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship held in Kathmandu in September 2013.
