Karzai condemns hanging of an 8-year-old boy

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has strongly condemned the hanging of an 8-year-old boy in southern Afghanistan. The son of a local police commander was abducted by the insurgents in the Greshk district of Helmand province on Tuesday. When the father did not meet the insurgents’ demand his son was hanged on Friday. In a press statement issued by Afghan President’s Office in Kabul on Sunday Mr. Hamid Karzai called it a cruel and cowardly act and said such crimes are unacceptable in any religion and culture. He has also directed the local authorities to bring the perpetrators of this inhumane act to justice.
