Afghanistan has assured India that it will take all possible measures for the security of Indians in that country. <br/><br/>President Hamid Karzai gave this assurance in his talks with the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi today. He also invited India to attend the follow-up of London conference to be held in Kabul. <br/><br/>The situation in Afghanistan, the fight against terrorism and extremism which threatens the region , the issue of Taleban and India's partnership in Afghhanistan's development process as well as the up- coming SAARC Summit were discussed at the meeting which lasted more than an hour. <br/><br/>Later addressing a joint press meet after the talks, Dr Manmohan Singh emphasised the Indian belief that the process of building a strong, peaceful and democratic a Afghnaistan should be led and owned by the Afghan people. He said that both were of the view that the terror attack in February in which seven Indian were killed in Kabul was the handiwork of those who do not wish to see a strong, independent and pluralistic Afghanistan. <br/><br/>The Prime Minister conveyed to President Karzai that perpetrators of such attacks will not succeed in undermining India's commitment to assist Afghan people. <br/> <br/>Mr. Karzai said they also discussed the upcoming Afghanistan peace consultative Jirgah which will comprise people from all walks of life in Afghanistan . He said it will advise the government on how to move forward to reintegrate and reconcile those elements of Taleban and others who accept Afghan constitution, are not part of Al Quaide and are not connected with any terror network. <br/><br/>Describing India as a strong partner, Mr Karzai expressed gratitude to India for its efforts in the reconstruction of Afghanistan. <br/><br/>The Prime Minister assured Mr Karzai of India's commitment to assist Afghanistan in its efforts towards reconstruction and development He also said that India will augment the capacity building, skill and human resource development to help strengthen public institutions in Afghanistan. <br/> <br/>In a joint statement issued at the end of the talks, the two leaders expressed grave concern over the threat posed by terrorism to Afghanistan's National Development efforts. <br/><br/>The two decided to work with international community to combat the forces of terrorism, particularly the threat to the region. <br/><br/>They also reiterated that the national bidding process in Afghanistan should be led by the people in keeping with the principles of sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
