DMK president Karunanidhi has demanded a genuine assessment of the drought-situation in the Cauvery Delta region by the Jayalalitha Government. He also wanted announcement of a relief package for affected farmers by the Tamil Nadu government.Citing reports that Kuruvai crops had failed due to lack of water, he said in Party's official organ – Murasoli – that prospects of Samba crops are also grim. He said the state government should take steps and consider a relief of 10,000 rupees per acre to farmers.
