DMK leader M Karunanidhi has urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to implement Cauvery River Authority’s order for 9,000 cusec water to Tamil Nadu till 15th of October. DMK Parliamentary Party leader Sh T R Baalu met Prime Minister at his residence last night on behalf of DMK leader.

He expressed his anguish on the decision of Karnataka to stop release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. Shri T R Baalu said that even though DMK leader always opposed invoking of Article 356, but hoped that the situation will not force the PM to take an extreme step in this matter.

He said that this unfortunate situation could have been avoided, if the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal’s final award in 2007 which ordered release of 205 TMC feet water to Mettur Dam daily had been notified in the gazette.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Miss Jayalaithaa had said that the State will file a contempt of court case against Karnataka in the Supreme Court for stopping the release of water to Tamil Nadu.
